Established in early 2018, the Food and Drink Sector
Council is a formal industry-
led partnership with Government to increase the productivity and sustainability
of the UK food and drink
sector.
The Council provides the forum for the combined industry to engage and
collaborate with
Government. It is co-chaired by industry and Government and its membership
comprises senior leaders
from across the agri-food chain. The Council represents the entire industry on
an inclusive and open
basis.
The Council is supported by the Department for Environment, Food
and Rural
Affairs
(DEFRA), forms part of
the industrial strategy led by the
Department for Business, Energy and
Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and
connects the industry with all departments of Government.
Its focus is on cross-industry challenges and opportunities,
providing a
strategic view on behalf of the
overall industry. It is the gateway for Government into the food industry value
chain to address the big
challenges and opportunities through collaboration, innovation,
entrepreneurialism and ambition.
